IWALANI KALUHIOKALANI

Iwalani Kaluhiokalani is the founder and owner of Smartbody Movement, a fully equipped Pilates and GYROTONIC® Studio and Teacher Educational Center located in Brookline Village, Massachusetts. Prior to forming Smartbody Movement, Iwalani taught Pilates from 1999-2003 at Salkov Studio of Brookline, where she was mentored by Deborah Salkov, with specialization in Polestar Pilates™ postural conditioning and post rehabilitative technique.

Having practiced the Pilates Method since 1997, Iwalani has taught Pilates since 1998. She is also a Pre-Trainer, or Teacher of Teachers, in GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS®, which she has studied intensively since 2003. She has been certified through, and continued her education with, The Physical Mind Institute, Authentic Pilates™, Balanced Body University, SmartSpine™ and the GYROTONIC® International Headquarters. She has learned from many great teachers, but is currently most influenced by her ongoing studies with Mary Bowen (Pilates Elder), Hilary Cartwright (Yoga for Dancers) and Juliu Horvath (GYROTONIC® creator).

Iwalani’s education also includes a strong background in and visual understanding of anatomy and biomechanics. She studied Figurative Painting at Bard College and Massachusetts College of Art and holds a BFA in Painting from Massachusetts College of Art, where she graduated with distinction and departmental honors. She has also studied movement, performance and dance for many years.

HOLLY REEVE FUNSTON

Holly Reeve Funston is a Pilates Method Alliance-certified instructor of the Pilates Method. She was certified for Pilates matwork through the Pilates Foundation UK in London and received comprehensive training in the United States through Core Dynamics and Balanced Body University. She has also studied with Mary Bowen (Pilates Elder) and continues to explore the power of the mind-body connection.

Holly has taught Pilates for all levels to dancers and non-dancers alike, from the ages of 10 to 98. She currently works with private clients at Smartbody Movement and teaches Pilates for the Boston Ballet Summer Dance Program.

Holly has shared the joy of dance and movement for 35 years, both as a performer and as a teacher. She was a principle dancer in the movie “Fame,” appeared on Broadway in the 1980 revival of “Brigadoon,” and has toured worldwide as a member of several New York City-based dance companies.

Holly attended North Carolina School of the Arts and the State University of New York at Purchase, New York, where she received her Certification in Arts Management.

ANN BROWN ALLEN

Ann Brown Allen is a Power Pilates Teacher. She has also completed the Physical Mind Institute Pilates Matwork certification. She currently teaches at Smartbody Movement and is a full-time Instructor of Jazz Dance and Ballet at Boston University.

For the past two decades, Ann has toured New England, New York and Europe with all of Boston's major modern and jazz dance companies, including Peter DiMuro and Associates, Back Porch Dancers and Dance Collective of Boston. She has also been a guest artist with several ballet companies.

Ann attended Simmons College, where she earned a BA in Education and Psychology.

KRISTINA SHUMSKY

Kristina Shumsky has been certified in Pilates since 1996 through the PhysicalMind Institute in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She has completed her certification in GYROTONIC® , GYROKINESIS® and all the specialized equipment.

Kristina has trained in classical ballet and is a certified teacher through the Royal Academy of Dance. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Dance and Kinesiology from Texas Women's University, where she was initially introduced to Pilates. Kristina has taught for 5 years in Dallas, Austin and Atlanta. She has been teaching Dance and Pilates in the Boston area since 1999, GYROTONIC® since 2001.

ADRIANNA THOMPSON (Adjunct Teacher)

Adrianna is a certified Master Teacher in both the GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® educational programs, including all specialized equipment. She is also an Authorized Master Trainer for Gyrotonic in both the Level 1 and Level 2 work, where she carefully oversees final certifications of teacher candidates. She has trained in the GYROTONIC® Expansion System since 1995 and has worked extensively with GYROTONIC® founder Juliu Horvath. Along with Mr. Horvath and master trainer Miriam Barbosa, she developed a new GYROTONIC® application for dancers, which was presented at the GYROTONIC® International Conference in Rome in 2008.

In addition to teaching at Smartbody Movement, Adrianna is currently on the faculty at Aspen Santa Fe Ballet. The co-founder of Aspen GYROTONIC®, she also teaches at the Art of Fitness in Aspen, Colorado. She has performed and taught Master Classes around the world, including at The Silesian Contemporary Dance Conference in Poland and the Harvard Summer Dance Project in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She has been a guest teacher for Aspen Santa Fe Ballet Company, Missouri River Dance Company and Martha Graham Dance Company.

Adrianna was an accomplished professional dancer and choreographer in New York City for 15 years and has worked with dancers from New York City Ballet, Jose Limon, Martha Graham, MOMIX Dance Companies and Aspen Santa Fe Ballet.

VICTORIA LIMADIBRATA (Adjunct Teacher)

Victoria Limadibrata is certified in Pilates and is a Level 2 Instructor in GYROTONIC® and a Level 3 Trainer, the highest Training Certification level available, in GYROKINESIS®. She has trained in Pilates, GYROTONIC®, GYROKINESIS® and Yamuna Body Rolling for more than ten years, including work with Marie-Jose Lawrence, Juliu Horvath and Yamuna Zake.

In addition to teaching at Smartbody Movement, Victoria heads an international business, Integrated Movement, that is focused on helping people to become certified trainers in Pilates, GYROTONIC®, GYROKINESIS® and Yamuna Body Rolling (YBR) techniques. She has offered professional training at the National University Hospital and Tan Tock Seng Hospital, both in Singapore, and the South East Asia Polestar Convention, also held in Singapore. She is on-staff at The University California, Irvine in Irvine, California and has developed and presented workshops for the University of Southern California’s graduate level Physical Therapy programs and has served as a guest lecturer at the Scripps College Dance Department in Claremont, California and the Citrus College Dance Department in Glendora, California. She also offers workshops, seminars, and lecture-demonstrations at conventions and conferences and for health and educational organizations.
